The production of cloth brought together a large group of specialists, all playing their part in the production of a finished piece of cloth. It was an unusual and complex pre-industrial system whose success rested upon network of contacts and inter-dependencies. Everything needed had to be available within tight geographical area. Each craftsman had to supply to order when the work came in, to small or larger orders.
